At Henry’s

Henry's Coffee

“You girls are so pretty,” says a thin man with a military haircut and a crisp flannel shirt. “Indianapolis has the prettiest girls.”

The women at the next table giggle.

“I hope you don’t mind me saying that. I grew up here and I just came back.”

“You don’t talk like you’re from here.”

“Oh I grew up with a southern Indiana accent but in college I needed to kill that. It’s such a breath of fresh air to come home and listen to people talk. You’re all so friendly.”

The women collect their gloves and scarves and leave. The man opens a newspaper to the classifieds and picks up his phone. “Hi, I just moved to Indianapolis today and I’m looking for an apartment to rent.”
