The Center of the World


Indiana’s motto is ‘the crossroads of America’ and it’s well-earned with eight major national highways passing through its center. Indiana is a uncannily neutral state that is difficult to pin down and define, as its main purpose seems to be stitching together the Midwest, Great Lakes, Appalachia, and the South. But then, the invisible boundaries of states are fictional and illogical creations. Cities are real. In 1820, Indiana planted its capital in the exact center of the state and created Indianapolis.
